Driver Busted After 13 People Found Crammed in Lorry at Cambridge Services
Arrest Made at Cambridge Services
A 50-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of immigration offences after police discovered 13 people packed inside a lorry near Cambridge.
The vehicle was stopped at Cambridge Services, close to Swavesey, just after 4.20pm on Thursday, February 24.
Police Find Nine Men and Four Women Inside Lorry
Officers from Essex Police and Cambridgeshire Constabulary searched the lorry and found nine men and four women inside. The vehicle is believed to have started its journey in Dover, Kent.
The driver was taken into custody at Parkside Police Station, Cambridge.
Emergency Services Respond Promptly
East of England Ambulance Service sent two rapid response vehicles, three ambulances, two Hazardous Area Response Team units, and an operations manager to the scene.
All 13 individuals were assessed at the scene but didn’t require hospital treatment. They have since been handed over to immigration authorities.
Police Trace Lorry on A14 Toll Road
Essex Police officers on patrol near Chigwell tracked the lorry to Cambridge Services, where additional crews joined the operation.
A police spokesperson said the investigation is ongoing as authorities work to identify and assist those involved.
An East of England Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called to Cambridge services on the A14 just before 5.30pm yesterday following reports a number of people had been found in the back of a lorry.”
