Greater Glasgow’s leading crime units have dealt a significant blow to organised crime by confiscating millions in drugs, cash, and weapons throughout 2022. This extensive crackdown disrupted the lucrative earnings and profits of serious criminal gangs operating in the region.

Between January and December last year, officers seized £9 million worth of drugs, £1.1 million in cash, and £311,095 under the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA) legislation. Additionally, 35 vehicles, 3 firearms, and 71 weapons were taken off the streets. Authorities also closed 40 bank accounts linked to organised crime activities.

Chief Superintendent Mark Sutherland spoke out against the crime lords, stating, “Serious organised crime groups operate with violence, intimidation, and greed. They destroy people’s lives and care only about themselves. We’re determined to hold them accountable and dismantle their networks. We work closely with partner agencies and the public to share intelligence and disrupt their illegal activity.”

Procurator Fiscal Laura Buchan praised the collaborative efforts, saying, “This coordinated approach is hitting organised crime hard across Greater Glasgow. We will continue to use all our powers alongside Police Scotland and partners to stop criminals profiting from their crimes. This sends a strong message: crime bosses beware – your profits will be seized and you will be pursued.”
