Man Trapped at Height in Dixons Chimney Rescue Drama
Emergency crews are locked in a tense rescue operation after a man became stuck high up in the Dixons chimney in Carlisle. Cumbria Fire and Rescue teams and police rushed to the scene just after 2:20am on October 28.
Complex Rescue Underway
John McVay, Area Manager for Cumbria Fire and Rescue, revealed the difficulty facing rescuers: “This is a very complex and difficult process given the obvious dangers to the man and the extreme difficulty in gaining access to him in a way which will keep him and emergency services safe.”
He added: “I can assure the public that the emergency services are working tirelessly and effectively together to resolve this issue safely for all and that the protection of life is our first priority.”
Road Closures Cause Disruption
The busy roads around the site are shut, including Stanhope Road, 1 Street, and Shaddongate at the Bridge Street (A595) junction. Authorities have urged locals and commuters to avoid the area to allow emergency teams to work unhindered.
Call-Out for Cherry Picker Owners
As part of the ongoing rescue, officials have issued an urgent plea: if anyone in Cumbria owns a cherry picker capable of reaching over 90 metres, they should call Cumbria Police or Fire and Rescue on 999 immediately.
People affected by the incident and closures are asked to remain patient while the dramatic rescue continues.
