Derbyshire Fire & Rescue were called out at 11:24pm on 24th April following a 999 alert. Firefighters from Nottingham Road, Ascot Drive, and Kingsway stations arrived swiftly to tackle the blaze.
They found the fire raging in the kitchen. Firefighters donned breathing apparatus and used a hose reel jet to douse the flames. They also ventilated the property, clearing thick smoke from the house.

Fire crews rescued the elderly man from the burning home. Paramedics from the East Midlands Ambulance Service treated him at the scene before rushing him to hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Derbyshire Constabulary arrived to support the investigation. Early findings suggest no suspicious causes, but police and fire are working together to establish exactly what sparked the deadly blaze.
“Thanks to the quick response of our crews, the fire was swiftly contained and extinguished. Our thoughts are with the gentleman and his family at this difficult time,” said a Derbyshire Fire & Rescue spokesperson.
Residents are urged to check smoke alarms and review fire safety at home. Anyone with information is asked to contact Derbyshire Fire & Rescue or police on 101.
