A deadly fire in Sinfin has claimed the life of a 72-year-old man. Investigators say the blaze was accidental, likely sparked by smoking in bed. The danger was made worse by flammable emollient creams the man was using.

The alarm was raised at 3.44pm on Friday, December 19, when neighbours spotted smoke pouring from a semi-detached house on Siskin Drive, Sinfin. Crews from Ascot Drive, Ilkeston, and Kingsway fire stations sped to the scene alongside Derbyshire Police and East Midlands Ambulance Service.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus rushed inside, but tragically the man was found dead on arrival.
