Bookmaker staff have been hailed as heroes after they helped catch a man who launched a knife attack on a customer celebrating a win.

Violent Attack Shakes Melton Road Shop

Just before 4pm on 24 May last year, chaos erupted at a Melton Road betting shop. Police were called after a customer was stabbed while celebrating a winning bet. Staff sprang into action, restraining attacker Parvinder Singh before officers arrived. The quick response ensured Singh was promptly arrested on site.

Victim Survives Knife Assault

The victim suffered cuts to his head and hand but, thankfully, his injuries were not life-threatening. He told police he didn’t know Singh, who had threatened to kill him immediately after the attack.

Attacker Gets 20 Years Behind Bars

Singh, 34, of no fixed address, faced Leicester Crown Court where he was charged with attempted murder and possession of an offensive weapon. On 28 January, he was found guilty. Yesterday (Monday 20 April), Singh was sentenced to 20 years in prison for the attack that shocked the local community.
