Ten Cheshire Cops Attacked in Just 48 Hours
Cheshire’s top cop, Chief Constable Mark Roberts, has slammed a horrific surge in violence after ten police officers and PCSOs were assaulted across 48 hours. The brazen attacks happened between Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 April at multiple spots across Cheshire while officers were just doing their jobs.
Victims were punched, pushed, kicked in the face, and shockingly, one officer was even bitten. Thankfully, no serious injuries were reported, but the force promised to hunt down and charge those responsible.
“Our Officers Are Not Punchbags”
“While the nature of policing inevitably requires officers to deal with violent and challenging situations, that does not mean that our officers can be used as punchbags,” said Chief Constable Mark Roberts.
“Nobody should come to work expecting to be verbally or physically assaulted.”
Roberts warned the impact isn’t just physical. The attacks cause psychological damage and force officers off the beat. This strains police resources and piles extra pressure on colleagues.
“These attacks are unacceptable and will not be tolerated. We are committed to protecting our officers and pursuing justice through the courts.”
Growing Violence Against Police a National Nightmare
The weekend’s violent spate highlights an alarming rise in assaults on emergency workers across the UK. Assaulting a police officer is a serious criminal offence, with tougher punishments handed out under the Assaults on Emergency Workers (Offences) Act.
Cheshire Constabulary is calling on the public to show respect and support for those serving on the frontline, vowing to keep officers safe and hold attackers to account.
