Yesterday evening, a fire broke out in a two-storey terrace house on Arnold Road, Tottenham. Six fire engines and approximately 40 firefighters responded after seven 999 calls alerted emergency services to the blaze.
The fire caused damage to the loft and first floor of the property. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Firefighters managed to bring the flames under control within an hour, from 5:28 p.m. to 6:37 p.m.
The London Fire Brigade suspects that the fire was caused by the improper use of incense sticks. A spokesperson for the brigade stated, “Candles, incense sticks, and oil burners are one of the most common causes of fire. It is critical that you never leave these items unattended and keep them away from anything easily flammable.”
They added, “Always place them in a heat-resistant holder on a stable surface to prevent tipping.”
Fire crews from Tottenham, Walthamstow, Holloway, and nearby stations collaborated to extinguish the fire. This incident highlights the potential dangers associated with everyday home rituals involving incense and similar items.
