Major Crash Shuts Down A14 Near Newmarket

A serious smash on the A14 westbound near Newmarket has sparked a huge emergency response and brought traffic to a standstill. The collision has forced multiple lane closures, snarling up journeys across the region.

Multi-Agency Emergency Response in Full Swing

Cambridgeshire Constabulary is leading the operation, backed by East of England Ambulance Service, Cambridgeshire Fire & Rescue, and East Anglian Air Ambulance. The crash happened earlier today on the westbound carriageway.

At around 6:25pm, cops also shut the eastbound A14 from Junction 35 to Junction 37, awaiting specialist teams to arrive. This double closure has caused major headaches for drivers.

Wider Road Closures and Diversions Cause Chaos

The fallout hasn’t stopped there. The A11 northbound is also blocked between the A1304 (Six Mile Bottom) and the A14. National Highways traffic officers are on hand helping manage the snarled-up roads.

  • Westbound drivers must exit at Junction 37, then divert via the A142, A1123, and A10 before rejoining at Junction 33.
  • Eastbound and northbound A11 traffic are being rerouted along local roads.

Drivers Urged to Avoid the Area

Authorities warn motorists to expect major delays. They urge drivers to leave extra time, find alternative routes, or postpone travel where possible.

The situation is ongoing and updates will follow as emergency crews continue their work.
