Serious Multi-Car Crash Shuts Middle Road Near Freshwater
Emergency crews are battling a major multi-vehicle smash on Middle Road tonight (Monday). The busy Newport to Freshwater route is shut both ways as firefighters and paramedics rush to rescue and treat those caught up in the collision.
Multiple Vehicles Collide Near Brook Road Crossroads
At least two cars, including a blue Honda and a white Toyota Yaris, crashed head-on near the junction of Brook Road with the B3401 and B3399. Four fire engines were called to the scene to help free trapped passengers.
One Driver Seriously Injured, Others Treated at Scene
“One person has been taken away on blue lights,” police confirmed at 5.45pm. “The driver of the white Yaris is in serious condition.”
Paramedics stabilised the casualty at the roadside, fitting a spinal board before rushing them to St Mary’s Hospital in Newport. Fire crews had to cut the roof off the Yaris to free the driver.
Three more injured passengers received treatment on site from Isle of Wight ambulance teams.
Road Closure to Continue for Hours
Officers say the Newport to Freshwater Road will remain closed for several hours as they carry out a full collision investigation. Drivers are warned to expect delays and seek alternative routes.
