A female teacher in her 40s tragically died at Kings’ School in Winchester on Thursday morning during the GCSE exam period. The incident occurred just as pupils were arriving at the school, leading to an urgent medical response that included an air ambulance.
The school was placed into lockdown and closed early following the emergency. Hampshire Police confirmed that the death is not being treated as suspicious and that the next of kin have been informed.
The fatal medical emergency shocked both staff and pupils. The school swiftly organised a controlled dismissal of students to manage the situation. Despite the tragedy, year 11 exams continued as planned with minimal disruption.
Locals and students paid tribute to the teacher, known as Mrs Bamford, describing her as a “compassionate and kind” member of staff who inspired many. Messages at the school highlighted her nurturing nature and the positive impact she had on the community.
Hampshire Police were alerted by ambulance colleagues at 9:54am and attended the Romsey Road school promptly. A file will be prepared for the coroner as investigations confirm there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.
The sudden loss has left a deep void at Kings’ School and within the wider community. Heartfelt condolences have been shared for her family and friends. Both the school and police continue to offer support to those affected by this tragedy.
