Fugitive Paedophile Jailed After 25 Years on the Run
A convicted child sex offender who fled to Australia a quarter of a century ago has finally been locked up at Grimsby Crown Court.
David Wilson, 78, was handed a seven-year prison sentence today after pleading guilty to multiple sex offences against four children under 14. The horrific abuse took place in Humberside during the late 1980s and early 1990s.
Predator Gained Trust Before Abuse
Wilson ingratiated himself with families to get close to his young victims before sexually assaulting them. He was first charged in the mid-90s but skipped bail in 1995, vanishing across the globe.
For 25 years, Wilson lived under false names in Australia and New Zealand, evading justice — until police finally tracked him down and dragged him back to the UK.
More Victims Came Forward Years Later
Additional offences emerged after complaints in 2013. Wilson faced fresh charges in 2020 at Grimsby Magistrates’ Court linked to abuse of two more children.
Paul Brown from the CPS said: “Wilson is a dangerous sexual predator who preyed upon young children, leaving them traumatised. His victims suffered life-long consequences whilst their abuser was living a new life on the other side of the world. Wilson’s dark past eventually caught up with him and he is now serving a seven-year sentence. I hope this is of some comfort to his victims.”
