Man Arrested for Double Murder at W12 Flat
Yostin Andres Mosquera, 34, of Scotts Road, W12, was arrested in Bristol in the early hours of Saturday morning. By Monday, July 15, he was charged with two counts of murder and is set to appear at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court that same day.
Victims Named as Albert Alfonso and Paul Longworth
The two victims have now been identified. Albert Alfonso, 62, originally from France but a British citizen, and 71-year-old Paul Longworth, a British national. The pair had previously been in a relationship and lived together at the Scotts Road flat where the crime occurred.
Mosquera was known to both men and had been staying with them briefly before the incident.
Investigation Underway – No Other Suspects
Police are probing whether any other linked offences exist in the UK or abroad, but none have been found so far. Detectives are piecing together the full circumstances, including any prior incidents connected to the case.
Deputy Assistant Commissioner Andy Valentine said: “My thoughts are with Albert and Paul’s loved ones coming to terms with this terrible news. Although neither victim had close family, others identified as next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.”
“We understand this incident will alarm residents in Shepherds Bush and the wider LGBTQ+ community across London. At present, we are not seeking anyone else in connection with the murders.”
“We have worked closely with the pan-London LGBTQ+ Independent Advisory Group (IAG) since establishing the victims’ identities. Their support and guidance have been invaluable.”
“We will continue collaborating with IAG and local partners as the investigation progresses.”
Hate Crime Classification and Public Help Requested
Although there is currently no evidence of a homophobic motive, police have classified this as a hate crime following national guidelines. This will help shape the investigation and be reviewed as new information emerges.
Police urge anyone with information to call 101 and quote reference 306/12JUL. Information can also be given to LGBTQ+ charity Galop via www.galop.org.uk.
