Relentless Stalker Jailed After Seven Years of Terror
A man who terrorised a woman and her family for seven years has finally been brought to justice following a major Met Police investigation.
From Workmate to Nightmare
Shaheen Chishti, 54, from Foxglove Street, W12, met his victim at work in 2016. He launched a relentless campaign of sexual harassment, bombarding her with unwanted emails and messages via social media.
Despite receiving a police caution in December 2016, Chishti continued to stalk the victim from multiple phone numbers and social media accounts for years.
Threats Turn Sinister
The harassment escalated. In September 2022, Chishti shocked the victim by messaging her via a work app, boasting he still had her personal details after leaving the company.
The following year, he contacted the victim’s mother, making explicit sexual threats and even said he would throw the victim into water, knowing she couldn’t swim.
Arrest and Conviction
Chishti was arrested in January 2023 as he returned to the UK from India. Police seized two mobile phones filled with threatening messages to the victim and her family over seven years.
Despite bail conditions banning contact, he continued his harassment and was re-arrested in October 2023.
On 24 April, Isleworth Crown Court convicted Chishti of stalking with fear of violence. He was sentenced to five years in prison.
Police Urge Victims to Speak Out
Police Constable Helen Constantinou: “Officers worked hard to ensure Chishti faced justice for the persistent stalking and harassment he inflicted. We know some victims are scared to come forward, but anyone who feels they are being stalked should contact the police or the National Stalking Helpline. This conviction shows we will pursue offenders and keep those at risk safe.”
The Met is ramping up efforts to protect women and girls from violence, working alongside groups like the Stalking Threat Assessment Centre and the Suzy Lamplugh Trust.
Through the A New Met for London plan, officers are focused on hunting down predatory offenders and making London safer for all.
