Romsey and Southampton North MP Caroline Nokes Office on Lockdown following the discovery of a suspicious substance

Police have been called to Market Place, Romsey, following the discovery of a suspicious substance. The office of Romsey and Southampton North MP Caroline Nokes has been cordoned off by police and is on lockdown. Police are currently at the scene with colleagues from Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service and South Central Ambulance Service to deal with this incident. They where called just after 12pm on Tuesday afternoon. Staff working within the office have been evacuated as a precaution. Hampshire Fire and Rescue have sent a number of appliances and a specialist DIM unit. Specialist Workers in protective suits have been entering the offices using Detection and Identification equipment to analyze the substance. It’s believed a white powder sent in a letter and opened by a member of staff has caused the evacuation of the MP Caroline Nokes’ constituency office. A Hampshire Police statement says: “We have been called to Market Place, Romsey, following the discovery of a suspicious substance.
